How to choose the pipeline connection method?

Pipe connection refers to connecting the processed and prefabricated pipe sections into a complete system according to the requirements of the design drawing.

During construction, different connection methods should be selected according to the material of the pipes used. Here are some common pipe connections:

①Flange connection:

  • Flange is a part that connects shafts to each other and is used to connect pipe ends.

  • Flange connection is to fix two pipes, pipe fittings or equipment on a flange plate first, then add a flange pad between the two flange plates, and finally tighten the two flange plates with bolts A detachable joint that holds them together tightly.

  • This type of connection is mainly used for the connection of cast iron pipes, rubber-lined pipes, non-ferrous metal pipes and flange valves, etc. The connections between process equipment and metal pipes also mostly use flange connections.

②Welding connection:

  • Welding connection is a method of combining workpieces by heating or pressure, or both, with or without filler materials.

  • Welded connections are mainly used for connecting metal pipes, especially steel pipes.

  • According to different welding methods, it can be divided into arc welding, gas welding, resistance welding, high frequency welding, explosion welding, etc.

③Threaded connection:

Threaded connections are made by using threaded pipe fittings. Galvanized steel pipes with a pipe diameter less than or equal to 100mm should be connected by threads, and are mostly used for surface-mounted pipes.

Steel-plastic composite pipes are also generally connected with threads.

④Socket connection:

  • In chemical pipelines, pipes with a diameter less than 40mm are commonly connected by sockets.

  • The method of socket connection is: fill the socket of the cast iron pipe with hemp cement, cyan lead, asbestos cement, expandable filler, etc., and then pour the joint.

⑤ Pressure connection:

Clamping connection is a new type of steel pipe connection method. It is mainly used for the connection between metal pipes. The connection operation is to use special connecting tools (clamping pliers) to connect pipes and pipe fittings made of stainless steel materials. The mouth is pressed into a hexagonal shape to achieve connection strength between pipes and fittings.

⑥ Groove connection (clamp connection):

Groove connection is a new type of pipe connection method that has emerged in recent years, also called clamp connection, and has many advantages.

This technology has been very mature abroad and is gradually being promoted and used in our country.

⑦ Hot melt connection:

Hot melt connection is mainly used to connect new pipes and fittings such as PP-R pipes, PB pipes, and PE-RT pipes.

When connecting, use a special heating tool to heat the connecting parts to melt them and connect them together.

⑧Socket hot melt connection:

Socket hot-melt connection is to insert the pipe into the pipe fitting and heat it at the socket to melt it and connect it together.

This method is often used to connect UPVC pipes, HDPE pipes and other materials.

⑨Mechanical connection:

  • Mechanical connection is a way to connect pipelines together through various mechanical fasteners (such as bolts, clamps, etc.).

  • This connection method is suitable for pipes made of various materials, including metal, plastic and composite materials
