1. The object of certification is the quality system of the supplier. The object of quality system certification is not a certain product or service of the enterprise, but the quality system itself. Of course, the quality system certification will inevitably involve the products or services covered by the system. Some enterprises apply for the certification of the overall quality system including various products or services of the enterprise, and some applications only include certain or part of the products (or service) quality system certification. Although the range of products involved is large or small, the object of certification is the quality system of the supplier.
2. Certification is based on quality assurance standards. Quality system certification is often required by suppliers to provide external quality assurance, so the basis for certification is the relevant quality assurance model standards. In order to make the quality system certification and international practices achieve mutual recognition, it is best for the supplier to choose the ISO9001:2015 standard.
3. The certification body is a third-party quality system evaluation body. To make the supplier quality system certification fair and credible, the certification must be undertaken by a third-party organization that has no economic interest in the certified unit (supplier) and no administrative affiliation. In addition to having experienced and well-trained personnel, resources and procedures that meet the requirements, this institution must also win the support of the government and the trust of the society with its excellent certification practices, and it must be authoritative and impartial.
4. The mark of certification approval is registration and issuance of certificates. For the quality system that applies for certification according to the prescribed procedures, when the evaluation result is judged as qualified, the certification body will register the certified enterprise and issue a certificate, list it in the directory of quality system certified enterprises, and publish it publicly. Enterprises that have been certified can use the registered logo in promotional materials, trade fairs and other promotional activities, but the logo must not be used directly on the product or its packaging to avoid confusion with product certification. Registered marks are protected by law and cannot be used or counterfeited.
5. Certification is an independent behavior of enterprises. Product quality certification can be divided into two categories: safety certification and quality certification, among which safety certification is often compulsory. Quality system certification is mainly to improve the quality reputation of the enterprise and expand sales. Generally, the enterprise voluntarily applies for it, which is an independent behavior of the enterprise.
